Scouts Welcome Mac Smith and Josh Ford to Lead Sound Design Team

The Madison Scouts are pleased to welcome Mac Smith (sound design), Josh Ford (sound engineer), and Erik Cao (sound intern) to the sound design team for the 2017 season.

Mac Smith is a professional sound designer at Skywalker Sound located in the San Francisco Bay area. He has worked on post production sound for over 75 films including “Sing”, “The Birth of a Nation”, “Toy Story 3”, “Tron Legacy”, and “Rango”. Mac has been nominated for 10 Golden Reel awards for motion picture sound editing.In 2011, Mac and Tom Tollefsen produced and directed a documentary a film focused on the drum corps activity titled “Scouts Honor: Inside a Marching Brotherhood”. The film screened at four prominent film festivals from 2014 to 2015 and took home 3 awards. "Scouts Honor" has since inspired many young people to get involved with the marching arts.An alumnus of the Madison Scouts (1995), Mac studied film at the University of Iowa. He currently lives in the bay area with his wife Ashley, son Admiral, and daughter Maven.

Josh Ford is an audio engineer and educator with Audiostate 55 Recording Studios in Birmingham, Alabama. He received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Music Technology with Honors at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he has also served as the audio engineer for the Marching Blazers. In addition to his recording studio work, Josh is an active educator, composer, and performer in the Birmingham area.

Eric Cao is an alumnus of the Madison Scouts (2016) and Pacific Crest (2013, 2014) having performed in the front ensemble. He was also a member of the Orange County Independent Indoor Percussion (2014, 2015) and is currently a member of RCC Indoor (2016, 2017). Eric is a student at California Polytechnic University where he studies mathematics.
