Scouts Alumni to March in Krewe of Orpheus Mardi Gras Parade

The Madison Scouts Alumni Corps will be marching in the Krewe of Orpheus Mardis Gras Parade in New Orleans on Monday, February 12th at 6 p.m. CT. The corps, consisting of 157 alumni members of the Madison Scouts, will be performing a medley of “South Rampart Street Parade”, “Bill Bailey”, “When the Saints Go Marching In”, a parade version of “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, and rousing version of “Little Liza Jane”.Preparations get finalized this upcoming weekend when the performers converge on New Orleans for two days of rehearsal at Cabrini High School. “Similar to past alumni projects, we are asking the alumni to arrive prepared and ready to rehearse,” said project organizer Scott Stewart, former director of the Madison Scouts. “We have again assembled many alumni to arrange the music, instruct, and help organize the event. We expect to give the people of New Orleans a great Madison Scout production.”Planning for the parade began in the spring of 2017 with Scott Stewart and Scott Pearson leading the charge. Both played key roles in organizing the 2006 Alumni Reunion Project. Making the project work logistically also required the assistance of many other groups. The alumni corps was able to borrow various equipment from the Madison Scouts drum corps (WI), Pioneer drum corps (WI), and Govenaires drum corps (MN) to help meet their needs.

Founded in 1993, the Krewe of Orpheus takes its name from the musically-inclined son of Zeus and Calliope. Founding members include Harry Connick Jr. and Harry Connick Sr.. The grand marshal for this year’s parade is actor, writer, producer and comedian Keegan-Michael Key, star of Comedy Central's "Key & Peele" (along with his comedy partner Jordan Peele).Fans can follow the Scouts Alumni in the days leading up to the parade. The corps will have active Facebook and Twitter feeds along with live video updates accessible from www.MadisonScouts.org
