The Madison Scouts are pleased to announce that alumnus Michael Ivan Burke has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Madison Drum and Bugle Corps Association, the legal entity of the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps.
“We are pleased to have Michael join our board,” stated Board President Gregg Auby. “Michael has a long history with the Madison Scouts organization and brings a wealth of experience working with non-profits on fundraising and grant writing.”Michael is currently the Grant Writer/Development Officer for the Afterschool Alliance in Washington, D.C., the nation’s leading advocate for afterschool and summer learning opportunities. He previously served as Grant Writer and Development Officer for the Salvation Army and the United Way, where he was also a Non-profit Board Training Coordinator.Michael has a B.A. in History from the University of Kentucky and M.A. in Church History/Theology from the Lexington Theological Seminary. He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals and the American Grant Writer’s Association.Michael Ivan Burke was a member of the Madison Scouts hornline from 1986-1989. He then served as a member of the Madison Scouts visual staff from 1991-1996, and later served as a guest staff consultant. In addition to teaching the Madison Scouts, Michael also spent time as a staff member for the Southwind Drum & Bugle Corps, as well as the Sunrisers Drum & Bugle Corps in Birmingham, England.
