Michael Alsop is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in music education at the University of Georgia. He is a graduate teaching assistant with the music education department, assisting with instrumental methods courses and observing student teachers. Before returning to graduate school, Michael taught middle and high school band and general music for six years in Brazil, Indiana. He has a decade of experience working with first-class marching bands, including the 38-time Indiana state finalist Northview Marching Knights and the two-time BOA Grand Nationals finalist Castle Marching Knights.Michael marched tuba with the Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps in 2006 and 2008, and returned to work on the corps’s visual staff in 2016. Michael’s research interests include breathing pedagogy and motivation in the music classroom. A native of Mount Vernon, Indiana, he graduated magna cum laude from DePauw University with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and earned a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Louisville.Andrew Brimm, Brass Intern
Andrew Brimm is currently studying music education with an instrumental focus at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, IL. He received his Honors Associates in Music/General Education at Joliet Junior College as well as a Music Technology Certificate. While going to school, Andrew is a visual tech with Downers Grove South High School and formerly with Joliet West High School. Andrew spent 4 summers as a performer with Music City Drum and Bugle Corps in 2015 and with the Madison Scouts from 2016-2018.Chad Huel, Brass Tech
Chad graduated with a B.Mus.Ed from the University of Regina in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada in 2000. Chad taught the Regina Lions Band from 1993-2003. This was an extra-curricular type of organization which provided opportunities such as Concert Band, Jazz Band, Winter Drumline, Winter Color Guard, and Marching Band. Chad is in his 19th year of teaching. He is in his 4th year with Regina Catholic Schools and Band Director at LeBoldus Catholic High School. Chad was the former Band Director at Winston Knoll High School and surrounding elementary schools in Regina for 10 years previous to this. Chad has been a clinician throughout Regina and Saskatchewan for many years. Under his direction, his bands consistently receive superior ratings at festivals such as the Downtowners Optimist Band Festival and the Moose Jaw Kinsman Band Festival.Chad is the Past-President of the Saskatchewan Band Association and he also sits on numerous other commitees such as the Optimist Band Festival Committee and the Prairielands Jazz Camp committee. Chad is also in his 2nd year as being the Director of the Queen City Brass Band. In the past, Chad has taught the Colts, Crossmen, and Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps.James Pennington, Brass Intern
James Pennington is a senior music education major at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA on trumpet. James has had 6 years of drum corps experience, 4 years with the Jersey Surf from 2012 - 2015 and two years with the Madison Scouts from 2016 - 2017. James marched with his high school band for four years and five years at James Madison University, serving as section leader and drum major.Victor Perez, Brass Tech
Victor has a passion for music and the marching arts starting as a low brass player in the wind ensemble, winter percussion, orchestra, and jazz bands in high school. Victor continued his love for music at Rio Hondo College where he earned his Associate of Arts in Music Performance, and then at California State University Los Angeles, as a euphonium major, performing in the Cal State LA First Chair Honor Band and Cal State Fullerton Honor Choir. In drum corps, he performed for 4 years, first with Impulse (2008-2009), then Phantom Regiment (2010), and finally with the Madison Scouts (2011) where he aged out. For the past 14 years, Victor has been playing the euphonium professionally, and as part of his local church’s ministry.Victor has been active in teaching at several schools in southern California for the past 5 years as a brass instructor, private lesson teacher, and visual caption head. This past summer he was a low brass instructor for the Madison Scouts and previously taught at the Sacramento Mandarins. He is currently a brass instructor for the Alhambra High School marching band and the visual caption head for the Paramount High School marching band in Los Angeles, CA.Parker Snell, Brass Tech
Parker Snell completed his Bachelor of Music Education degree at the University of Oklahoma. During his time at OU, Parker was the tuba section leader for the Pride of Oklahoma Marching Band, and performed with the Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra. He also was very active with the Mu Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, where he held the positions of Fraternity Education Officer and President.Outside of the university, Parker was a member of the Frontier Brass Band, which consists of brass faculty members from many universities across the Oklahoma City metroplex. He also was a member of the Madison Scouts in 2013, where he marched in the contra section. Parker is currently the Assistant Band Director for Guthrie Public Schools in Guthrie, OK.Chris Stanley, Brass Tech
Chris Stanley holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Trumpet Performance and a Masters in Jazz Studies with a concentration in Studio Production. He currently resides in New Jersey as a freelance trumpet player and audio engineer. Chris began his DCI career performing with Spirit of New Jersey from 2004-2006. From there, he performed with Spirit of Atlanta (2007,2008) and the Phantom Regiment (2009,2010).After aging out, he began teaching as a high brass specialist in the activity first with Colts Drum & Bugle Corps (2011-2013), Spirit of Atlanta (2014), and Pacific Crest (2016-2018). Outside of music, Chris enjoys playing sports and is currently in training to become a certified yoga instructor.Bill Waterman, Brass Tech
Bill Waterman joined the faculty at the University of Tennessee at Martin in the fall of 2014, where he serves as the Director of Athletic Bands and Associate Professor of Tuba and Euphonium. His ensembles have performed throughout the region, the state, and at international conferences. Prior to his appointment at UT-Martin, Dr. Waterman served on the faculty at the University of Michigan at Flint (MI), the Flint Institute of Music (MI), and Jackson College (MI). During the summers, Bill serves on the faculty for Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake, MI. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Kansas, Master of Music degree from Texas Tech University, and his Doctorate of Musical Arts degree from Michigan State University.Dr. Waterman is an award winning educator, conductor, arranger, and performer. In 2015 he founded the West Star Brass Band (WSBB) of which he serves as the Musical Director and Conductor. Prior to the WSBB, he captured two first-place finishes in the North American Brass Band Association (NABBA) Championships 10-Piece Brass Band Category (2013, 2014), a second place finish in the NABBA Second Division (2014), and a third-place finish in the US Open Brass Band Championships (2013) as the Music Director and Conductor for the Capital City Brass Band. Dr. Waterman is an active arranger for brass band, chamber ensembles, marching band, and drumlines across the United States and regularly adjudicates throughout the country.
