The Madison Scouts welcome Mark Hunter as battery caption head and Sean Womack as front ensemble caption head.“We are incredibly excited for our additions to the 2017 percussion team.” said James Sparling, Scouts percussion director. “Mark and Sean are experienced music educators who bring a wealth of knowledge and a fresh vision to Madison’s percussion program.”
Mark Hunter is an accomplished percussionist, composer, and educator that excels in the marching arts. A native of Chicago, he began his percussion education under Bret Kuhn. As a student of James Campbell at The University of Kentucky, Mark performed in a number of the university’s ensembles, including that which won the prestigious Percussive Arts Society Collegiate Percussion Ensemble Contest two times during his tenure.Mark is an alumnus of The Cavaliers during which time the group was awarded two high percussion awards and a DCI World Championship. Upon graduation from the University of Kentucky with an MFA, he joined the Tony and Emmy Award-winning show, Blast!, and toured Japan as the show’s marimba soloist.Mark has previously worked with a number of drum corps including the Mandarins, Phantom Regiment, Spirit of Atlanta, and the Colts. He is concurrently on the staff of Music City Mystique (WGI).
Sean Womack is an independent percussion educator, writer, and arranger based in Birmingham, Alabama. Currently he serves as an adjunct professor of percussion at Jacksonville State University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is the co-founder of DoubleStop Percussion, a percussion education company based in Birmingham.Sean received his Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a Master of Music in Percussion Performance from the University of Georgia. He has been on the staffs of Spirit of Atlanta, Phantom Regiment, Mandarins, and Music City. Mr. Womack holds membership in the Percussive Arts Society, the National Association for Music Education, and the Alabama Music Educators Association.
