The Madison Scouts welcome Derrick Shannon II in the role of Percussion Coordinator and Battery Arranger/Composer and Chris Murphree in the role of Front Ensemble Manager and Arranger/Composer.“I am excited to bring these young talents to our team,” said Artistic Director James Elvord. “Both Derrick and Chris bring a fresh approach to their craft and will certainly bring a unique sound to the Madison Scouts percussion.”Derrick Shannon II

Derrick Shannon is currently the Director of Percussive Arts at Plainfield Community Schools and most recently the percussion caption head for the Phantom Regiment. He is also a Creative Director for Legacy Performing Arts indoor percussion ensembles. Derrick received his Bachelors in Music Education at the VanderCook College of Music and his Master’s in Music Technology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.Derrick spent seven summers as a drum corps performer, including two years with the Phantom Regiment as a bass drummer (high percussion, DCI World Champions) and two years with The Cavaliers in the front ensemble (high percussion). He has also performed in Pioneer Indoor, winning the WGI PIA World Championships; and has been an active performer for both the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Bears drum lines. Derrick is the founder of Percussive Soundscapes which offers a variety of services to the marching arts community including custom arrangements for band and winter percussion ensembles.Chris Murphree

Chris Murphree is a freelancing percussionist and arranger currently working in Indiana with Brownsburg and Plainfield High School percussion programs and formerly with Goshen High School’s percussion program. In addition, he is a Creative Director for Legacy Performing Arts indoor percussion ensembles.Chris received his Masterʼs degree from Indiana University and a Bachelorʼs degree from Middle Tennessee State University, where he also served as an Adjunct Professor of Percussion in 2014. He was a performing member of the Spirit of Atlanta, The Cavaliers, and Music City Mystique. He has been an instructor with the Troopers, Phantom Regiment, and Blue Knights.
