Madison Scouts Announce Live Learning Workshop Series for Band Students

The Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps is excited to announce Madison Live Learning, a series of summer workshops designed for marching band students and directors.“The workshops offer a great opportunity for high school students to learn new skills that they can take back to their home programs,” Chris Komnick, Executive Director of the Madison Scouts, said.During the two-hour workshop, students will work with top-notch Madison Scouts instructional staff on basic movement skills and rehearsal techniques.“Students will have the opportunity to meet and learn from a variety of people across the corps,” said Komnick. “All sections of the corps will be represented including percussion, brass and color guard.”Beyond instruction, attendees will also have the opportunity to see first-hand a run through of the Corps’ 2013 production “Corps of Brothers: 75 Years of Survival.”The Merrillville workshop holds a special opportunity for marching band directors as the Madison Scouts partner with the Indiana Music Education Association.“Directors will meet and hear from the Scouts staff as to how and why they make their design choices,” said Komnick, “and how that has translated into their teaching approach on the field.”Directors will also hear presentations from IMEA clinicians and get tips on how to incorporate great teaching techniques into marching programs.The Live Learning workshops will be held June 22 in Merrillville, IN; June 23 in Bowling Green, OH; and July 9 in Charleston, IL.For more information, visit www.MadisonScouts.org.
