Forward Performing Arts and the Madison Scouts are pleased to be partnered with the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra (GDYO) for the Mad Dash 5K for Music Education. The inaugural running of a Mad Dash 5K event in the Dallas area will be held at Frisco Commons Park in Frisco, Texas on Saturday, April 22nd at 9 a.m.
"This is the first year for the Mad Dash in the Dallas area and we are very excited with the support we have received from the local community so far," said Chad Gulick, Dallas race coordinator. "We are quickly approaching 100 registered runners and have over 20 corporate sponsors that are supporting the music education mission of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and Forward Performing Arts.""GDYO is honored to partner with Forward Performing Arts and the Madison Scouts for the Mad Dash 5K. The Mad Dash 5K is a chip timed run/walk through beautiful Frisco Commons Park in Frisco, TX. The scenic course winds through densely wooded areas and along a large pond, and consists of paved trails throughout. Participants will begin at the Veteran’s Memorial near the park entrance and complete 3 full laps around the outer trail loop before returning to the start/finish line. All finishers will receive the commemorative Mad Dash dog tag and the satisfaction of knowing they have supported music education on a local and national level. GDYO has grown to include two full orchestras, three string orchestra, a wind ensemble, a flute choir, and eight jazz combos in the Jazz Institute. In addition to performing at the Meyerson, the GDYO tours internationally including China in the summer of 2007, a tour of Germany and the Czech Republic in 2012, and back to China in 2015. The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra program offers training to more than 450 talented youth musicians, ages 8 to 18. The GDYO is funded in part by the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, TACA, and the Texas Commission on the Arts, with funding from the State of Texas and the National Endowments for the Arts.
