The Madison Scouts are please to introduce Chris Tomsa as Brass Program Director. The pageantry arts have been Chris’ passion for 4 decades as a performer, instructor, arranger, composer, program coordinator, and adjudicator. Chris has instructed, composed, and arranged for many of the world’s finest drum and bugle corps including Phantom Regiment, Madison Scouts, Glassmen, Colts, Mandarins, and the 27th Lancers, as well as for some of the activity's top high school and college marching bands.

In his years at the Madison Scouts, he won 3 DCI high brass titles and the 1975 World Championships, while mentoring under DCI Hall of Fame brass instructor James Elvord. He went on to become the Scout's brass caption head and music coordinator, where he helped to develop some of the corps’ most memorable and exciting programs. At the Glassmen, Chris was the brass arranger during a 15-year period that saw the corps rise from 49 members to the top of the activity as a perennial DCI finalist. As a brass instructor at Phantom Regiment, Chris played a role in helping to shape Regiment’s renowned low brass sound. At Colts, Chris was composer/arranger and program coordinator for some of the corps most successful programs. Most recently, Chris was the brass co-caption head at the Mandarins where he played a key role in evolving their brass program, resulting in the two most successful competitive seasons in the corps’ history."We are excited to welcome Chris back to the Madison Scouts where he launched his successful career in the marching arts," said Executive Director Chris Komnick. "He understands the history and desired future of our brass program and brings a wealth of educational experience to the role. I'd also like to personally thank Scott Oliver, former brass caption head, who is leaving us to pursue his masters degree," continued Komnick. "Scott started with us as a brass intern in 2010 and eventually assumed the caption head role in 2015. His approach and enthusiasm provided our members a great educational experience. Thank you Scott!"Tomsa also had the opportunity to mentor under two legendary DCI Hall of Fame composer/arrangers during his previous tenure at the Madison Scouts: Ray Baumgardt and Jim Ott. He put this experience to good use in the marching band activity for the last 20 plus years, having arranged and composed wind music for some of the nation’s top high school and college marching bands. In addition to composing and arranging, Chris has been an instructional and design consultant to many other drum corps and marching bands around the United States and Canada.Chris Tomsa's pageantry arts experience also extends to judging marching band and indoor pageantry competitions where he is an adjudicator for WGI Sport of the Arts, US Bands, Ohio Indoor Performance Association, Tri-State Marching Arts, and the Mid East Performance Association, where he is also the circuit’s judge coordinator. He is also a senior consultant and lead trainer for BenchmarkPortal, the global leader in benchmarking, certification, training and consulting for businesses, where he provides online and onsite training to adults for coaching, quality assurance, supervisor certification and management certification. He lives in Cincinnati, Ohio and he studied music education at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Case Western Reserve University, and at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
