Annual Meeting Recap

The Madison Drum & Bugle Corps Association, Inc. (MDBCA) held its annual organizational meeting on Friday, November 6th in Madison, Wisconsin. With its 2015 fiscal year ending on October 31st, the results reported are preliminary and subject to audit.The financial highlights of the year, as reported by Executive Director Chris Komnick, included:

  • Approximate $47.5K of net profit on operations
  • Increased event ticket sales by 36% from the previous year
  • Increased soft goods merchandise profit by $57K from the previous year
  • Increased instrument sales net profit by 52% from the previous year
  • Operational expenses $46K below the targeted budget
  • Reduced ongoing debt load by 14%

“We continue to make steady progress on the financial stability and sustainability of the organization,” said Komnick. “We were able to put a great product on the field, deliver a meaningful member experience, and keep the organization financially viable.”In addition to the financial reports, Komnick discussed the corps’ mission and key programmatic aspects moving forward; including:

  • Renewed focus on member leadership initiatives led by Dann Petersen
  • Delivery on the educational mission through instructional excellence
  • Continued attention to member health & wellness and a nutritional food program
  • Staff and design consistency heading into 2016
  • Approach to brand and accessibility in show programming

"We were greatly encouraged by the turnout and the thoughtful questions posed by members of the Association," noted Board President Gregg Auby. "The overwhelmingly consensus after the meeting is that the organization's mission is clear and that our excellent staff is delivering on the Association's goals and objectives."By unanimous decision, the association membership elected the following candidates to 2-year terms:

  • Drew Hadley
  • Chuck Henson
  • Steve Vickers

By unanimous decision, the association membership elected the following candidates to 3-year terms:

  • Gregg Auby
  • Bryan Hughes
  • Joe Murray

The board extends its appreciation to board member Layton Olsen who is stepping down after several years of service to the organization. Thanks Layton!
