Forward Performing Arts and the Madison Scouts are excited to announce a concert benefit An Evening of Big Band Jazz & Funk featuring Al Chez & The Brothers of Funk on Friday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. The concert will take place at the beautiful Overture Center for the Arts in Madison, Wisconsin. Part of the 80 Years Strong anniversary celebration of the Madison Scouts, the concert proceeds will benefit the music educational initiatives of Forward Performing Arts.Al Chez is well-known for playing trumpet over 25 years on “Late Night” (NBC) and “The Late Show with David Letterman” (CBS). He is the second-longest network television trumpet player after Doc Severinsen, with over 2,800 shows to his credit.Al has performed and toured with many incredible artists including Tower of Power, Maynard Ferguson, Bon Jovi, Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Young Rascals, Dave Edmunds Band, Ben E King, and Sam & Dave. Forming his own band in 2008, he continues to actively tour nationally while also giving back to young musicians through his educational clinics.The recently-released album, Chapter One: Reinvented, features his own take on many classic rock and standard tunes, as well as his first original song, For Your Love.
Preceding the concert, Al and the band will conduct a jazz band clinic at 3 p.m. at the Overture Center. In addition to working directly with Al Chez and his talented band members, students will get to perform a piece live on stage at the Overture Center with the band that evening. The jazz band clinic is free to students holding a ticket to the event that evening.
