Adventures

June 5th- Rocky:We’re working hard as always. Today we finally learned the drill for our closer. Our show is now almost 200 sets in total. I feel accomplished to have finished the show so now we can go into cleaning mode. Now we get to go through the show measure by measure and strive to make every measure; every dot perfect. It’ll be tedious, but that’s why someone does drum corps. Achieving perfection is literally impossible (especially with shows as complex as these), but in striving for perfection one maximizes their potential as a performer and becomes the best that they can be.The bassline sent on an adventure today. Don’t tell anyone, but we snuck out for a nature hike after curfew. We set out on the trail with flashlights in the middle of the night to go exploring. I have to admit it, it was pretty sketchy. I felt like we were in a horror film waiting for something to pop out of the darkness at any moment. Luckily that didn’t happen. After like 30 minutes of hiking and actually getting lost off the trail a couple of times we came to a clearing. It was really just a drainage pond in a corn field, but it was pretty cool at night. There were tons of crickets and fireflies. We found a hatch at the end. Felt like we were in an episode of Lost or something waiting for Desmond to shine the light up at us. We opened it up and were disappointed to only find an irrigation system. Kind of a letdown. We just sat there under the stars listening to the sounds of nature for what must have been like an hour. We talked about all sorts of stuff drum-related and not; from the meaning of life to what flavor the yellow jelly was at the PB&J table was (found out it was apple later). A good bonding experience for us and a good escape from nonstop band. And the best part was that the Drum Majors didn’t catch us when we came back in so we didn’t have to do the 100 push ups usually associated with being out past curfew. Probably shouldn’t be talking about this, but it was too cool not to share. Don’t rat us out!(Editor’s note: They had to do some push-ups once we read this…)
